Lukena Karkhanis, MD

Medical Director

Lukena Karkhanis, M.D. is board certified in Allergy/Immunology and Internal Medicine and sees both pediatric and adult patients at the Medical Center/Babcock and Southside/Barlite offices. She currently serves as the Medical Director for AllergySA.

Dr. Karkhanis earned her medical degree with honors from Seth G.S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital in Mumbai, India. Following medical school, she conducted research at the University of Pittsburgh before completing her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and Columbia University in New York City. She then completed her fellowship in Allergy & Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Committed to advancing the field of allergy and immunology, Dr. Karkhanis actively participates in national allergy conferences and has authored and presented numerous research publications and reports. She also has served as a Sub-Investigator on multiple clinical research studies at the Allergy and Asthma Research Center, allowing her to stay at the forefront of emerging treatments and innovations in allergy care.

She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Society, and the San Antonio Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Society.

Dr. Karkhanis provides comprehensive care for patients of all ages, helping them manage allergies, asthma, and related immunologic conditions. Outside of medicine, Dr. Karkhanis enjoys art, literature, culinary experimentation, and spending time with her family.
